You Might Be In a Tunnel
And there is a light at the very end.
Hola 👋🏼 Danni here.
For years, I've been engaging in therapy, discovering layers of myself I never knew existed, and learning to navigate the complex emotions that come with both life and entrepreneurship.
Recently, after taking a brief hiatus from therapy, I found myself back in that familiar place, sitting face to face with my therapist, walking through the initial raw and deep feelings of grief. What transpired was a moment of profound clarity that I want to share with you.
"You're not in a cave; you're in a tunnel."
These words from my therapist struck me with their simple yet profound truth. Let me break down why this metaphor resonates so deeply.
When we're struggling, it's easy to feel trapped in a cave – a dead end, a place of stagnation, somewhere dark and isolated with no way out. The walls feel permanent, unmovable, closing in.
But a tunnel? A tunnel is different.
A tunnel is a pathway
A tunnel has a direction
A tunnel, most importantly, has an exit
In business and life, we often face periods of darkness. It can be anything and everything——market downturns that feel insurmountable, personal setbacks that shake our confidence, relationships that need rebuilding, and projects that seem to be going nowhere.
These moments can feel like caves. But reframing them as tunnels changes everything. It reminds us that whatever we are going through is temporary, movement, however slow, is possible, and light exists ahead, even if we can't see it just yet.
As I journey through my own tunnels, I am reminded that we all have our tunnels. I'm also reminded that progress isn't always about speed. Sometimes, it is about:
Taking steady and slow steps forward
Being patient with the process
Trusting that movement, even slow movement, is still movement
Accepting help and guidance along the way
If you feel like you're in a cave, I invite you to consider this perspective. Perhaps you're not in a cave; you’re in a tunnel. You just haven’t gotten to the light at the end part yet, but it is coming.
This challenging period is not your final destination but a passage to somewhere new.
Every tunnel has a light at the end. And you and I will reach it if we just keep going.
That’s it, that’s all!
Rooting for you!
